Unable to add Analytic Provider Services (APS) Server in Essbase Administration Services (EAS) Console. “Cannot connect to Analytic Server. Error: Analytic Server Error (1030008): NULL argument [Doc ID 1083714.1]

Symptoms

Adding an Analytic Provider Services (APS) Server in Essbase Administration Services (EAS) Console errors with:

“Cannot connect to Analytic Server. Error: Analytic Server Error (1030008): NULL argument (4) passed to ESSAPI function EssLogin.”

Cause

The cause of this issue is unknown.

This issue has been identified and verified in unpublished Bug 6586835 – SETTING APS TRACE LOG TO TRUE, EAS WILL LOSE THE CONNECTION TO APS

Solution

The workaround to this issue is:

1. Open essbase.properties under \Hyperion\AnalyticProviderServices\bin directory.
2. Change System.log.trace.enable=true to false.
3. Restart APS and then try add Provider Services node in EAS.

This bug has been indirectly fixed in release 11.1.1.1.00.
